  10. has turned away from the great social

  12. issues of the day.  Even computer

  14. magazines must be aware of injustice
  15.  
  16. and take steps to correct the

  18. inequities that they find.
  19.  
  20.  
  21.   Imaginative lot that we are, we
  22.  
  23. have even found a few problems no one
  24.  
  25. ever knew about before.
  26.  
  27.  
  28.   Take the yuppie bowling crisis--
  29.  
  30. LOADSTAR was first to recognize that
  31.  
  32. yuppies don't bowl.  How can they
  33.  
  34. live with such a vital part of their
  35.  
  36. humanity unfulfilled?  No wonder
  37.  
  38. they are such easy marks for foreign
  39.  
  40. car salesmen and tofu peddlers--
  41.  
  42. it is a classic case of transference.
  43.  
  44.  
  45.   LOADSTAR has found that all yuppie
  46.  
  47. behavior patterns, from wearing
  48.  
  49. Reeboks to thinking Garison Keillor
  50.  
  51. is funny, stem from their inability
  52.  
  53. to feel comfortable with bowling.
  54.  
  55.  
  56.   After reading everything from
  57.  
  58. Freud's CIVILZATION AND ITS
  59.  
  60. DISCONTENTS to the latest articles on
  61.  
  62. endocrinology, LOADSTAR has
  63.  
  64. discovered that this antipathy has a
  65.  
  66. physiological basis-- yuppies are
  67.  
  68. inevitably allergic to polyester and
  69.  
  70. domestic beer.

  72.  
  73.   Since LOADSTAR realizes the
  74.  
  75. ramifications of a society that does
  76.  
  77. not bowl (after all, Gary Hart was
  78.  
  79. almost elected president by all those
  80.  
  81. non-bowlers) we commissioned our own
  82.  
  83. Joe Garrett to find a cure.  He
  84.  
  85. succeeded admirably with UP YOUR
  86.  
  87. ALLEY.

  90.   Now yuppies can sit at home and be
  91.  
  92. comfortable in their natural fiber
  93.  
  94. clothing and relax to some old
  95.  
  96. Jackson Browne while they enjoy a
  97.  
  98. quiet, sanitary, and above all,
  99.  
  100. genteel game of bowling.

  102.  
  103.   While UP YOUR ALLEY may lack some
  104.  
  105. of the bowling alley ambiance
  106.  
  107. necessary for a complete cure, it is
  108.  
  109. a great stride forward for yuppie's
  110.  
  111. eventual rehabilitation.

  114.   For the rest of us who don't
  115.  
  116. necessarily think that "turkey" means
  117.  
  118. a great low-cal meat, UP YOUR ALLEY
  119.  
  120. is one of the most realistic
  121.  
  122. computerized bowling games around-- a
  123.  
  124. game that lets us choose our marks
  125.  
  126. and have some control over the ball's
  127.  
  128. curve while it is in flight.  UP YOUR
  129.  
  130. ALLEY also, unlike lesser bowling
  131.  
  132. games, keeps track of scores frame by
  133.  
  134. frame.
  135.  
  136. PLAYING UP YOUR ALLEY
  137.  
  138.  
  139.   While running UP YOUR ALLEY, you
  140.  
  141. will see only one screen.  At the top
  142.  
  143. of this screen is where the program
  144.  
  145. prompts you to input information.
  146.  
  147.  
  148.   Below this section is the bowling
  149.  
  150. lane itself, and at the bottom of the
  151.  
  152. screen is a scoring chart.
  153.  
  154.  
  155.   When you begin UP YOUR ALLEY, you
  156.  
  157. will be prompted to enter the number
  158.  
  159. of players (up to two) and their
  160.  
  161. names.  You must press RETURN after
  162.  
  163. you type the information.
  164.  
  165.  
  166.   At the bottom of the screen, beside
  167.  
  168. the scoring chart, an arrow points to
  169.  
  170. the name of the person who is bowling
  171.  
  172. at that time.
  173.  
  174.  
  175.   To prepare for your throw, use your
  176.  
  177. cursor keys to line the green mark at
  178.  
  179. the left-hand margin of the lane
  180.  
  181. where you want the ball to strike the
  182.  
  183. pins.
  184.  
  185.  
  186.   When you are satisfied with that
  187.  
  188. mark, pressing RETURN will release
  189.  
  190. your ball.  Notice that hitting the
  191.  
  192. SPACE BAR will curve the ball in
  193.  
  194. flight-- an especially nice feature
  195.  
  196. to have when you are going after
  197.  
  198. those nasty splits.

  200.  
  201.   UP YOUR ALLEY keeps score frame by
  202.  
  203. frame as each player bowls.  After
  204.  
  205. the tenth frame, you will be asked if
  206.  
  207. you wish to play again.
